Winter Haven is a Mexican group characterized by elegance, strength and darkness in their compositions.

.

Originally from Mexico City, in recent days they made the presentation of their recent album titled Lanre that will be soon to be launched on digital platforms and that you can get through their official Facebook page @winterhavenoficial.

Without further ado, let's continue with the review of this second full-length material:

Lanre

Agony is the song that opens this album.

The aggressiveness and power of the drums performed by José Luis Soto in combination with the guitars of Ángel Montagner and Khuahtli Rentería as well as the bass of Juan “K-hoz” Rentería will catch your attention from the first seconds. Iván Rogdon plays with different vocal ranges throughout the song making use of clean, throaty voices whose changes occur naturally.

The song that gives its name to this full-length album is Lanre .

An introduction characterized by the use of the piano and the inclusion of some electronic elements add to the song a more melodic orientation. The interpretation of Iván Rogdon is masterful for the use of low and high notes in combination with the guttural ones, providing greater versatility to this rock ballad.

Lanre

We continue with Sunlight Dethroned in which a clear influence of power metal is appreciated by the use of keyboards in conjunction with guitars. This song is characterized by the use of clean voices over guttural voices and the one with the greatest variety in relation to the instrumental. In the middle part, orchestral parts are included that gives more strength to the song and that has been a hallmark in the musical identity of the band. This song is the promotional single and you can watch its video here: https://youtu.be/xA5UMKBM7KI

When They Come is one of the heaviest songs on the album in terms of sound. The speed with which the guitars are played in conjunction with the bass and drums take us to a stage characterized by chaos and destruction and that feeling is transmitted in the vocal part. The orchestral part adds more drama to his musical proposal.

The presence of acoustic guitars in ascending form introduces us to The Curse . A song that takes us to a scene characterized by the desolation caused by the war. A short-lived melody whose narrative generates feelings of sadness and pain.

Endless is the continuation of the atmosphere created in the previous song. It is a ballad that includes orchestral parts dominated by the interpretation of the cello and that presents the versatility of Iván Rogdon's vocal ranges. The instrumentation in the middle of the song is masterful due to the drastic change in sound giving openness to the electronic without neglecting that melodic sensation and at the end of this the acoustic is taken up again. A song that shows the potential that this Mexican band has.

This harmony of sadness and melancholy is broken with Sleeper . The song as a whole presents influences from different genres within the metal scene such as industrial, power and speed, constituting it as one of the songs that comprise the musical proposal of Winter Haven. The closing of this song shows us the vocal capacity of Iván Rogdon who takes his high notes to another level.

.

The introduction of Awakening transports us to a place like the Middle East and that we can perceive through the inclusion of some folk elements such as the flute. The return of guttural voices is appreciated that break with the dreamlike atmosphere created throughout the song and that takes center stage at the end of it. A song that announces the beginning of the end of this album.

Lanre

Trapped in Eternity is the longest song on the album and it brilliantly closes this second Winter Haven job.

The beginning of this melody takes us back to a concert with our hands up and moving them to the beat of the drums and which is gaining speed with the inclusion of the guitars and the vocal part.

This plate encompasses the entire musical proposal throughout this album as it presents the musical influences that helped consolidate the sound of this Mexican band and are part of its musical identity. The orchestral part accompanied by the chorus has no words added to the keyboard playing reminding us of progressive metal.

Winter Haven has presented an album that is the product of the musical influences of each of its members, making it a unique proposal. With an orientation away from the symphonic and folk elements that characterized his debut work, Lanre is an album with a closer orientation to rock, but without neglecting its roots. I highly recommend this second full-length album because each song is a different universe that will take place in different settings and generate a sway of emotions.
